Rep. Michael Grimes of R-New York deserves credit for serving in the U.S. Marines and the FBI. However, as the entire nation was to see, Grimes does have a temper after threatening to throw a reporter off a balcony and breaking him like a boy after the reporter started to question him regarding a campaign finance probe.
So was the congressman right to be angry? Probably his anger was justified by the ambush. And judging by the rep's temper, if the camera was not running and he was overseas operating in his previous career, reporter Michael Scotto might not be around today!
But regardless the reporter survived and is now a media hero. Grimes capitulated and has scheduled a lunch with the reporter to apologize. Well, would love to be a fly on the wall to hear that conversation.
But chances are pretty good that reporter Scotto probably will not be getting any one-on-one time with the representative for an exclusive interview again.
Regardless what the rep's official press release may say, Grimes joins the ranks of politicians and celebrities going on an apology tour for actions he likely is not sorry for. Grimes should have just stuck to his guns and kept his mouth shut versus going on a public relations campaign to repair his public image.
Sounds like Grimes has bigger legal issues looming over him versus making a forced apology to a man he'd rather snap in half like a boy.
